Hello! My name is Ukemeabasi, Ukeme if you’d like, and I write this blog and share positive messages at Inspiring Words.
My Story So Far…
I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria where I attended St. Saviours Primary School. I went on to attend Loyola Jesuit College (LJC), a boarding school run by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. I believe that my secondary school years provided me with the skills and knowledge that enable me to succeed as an international student in the United States.
My journey continued at Assumption College where I was admitted with an Aquinas Scholarship. As an undergraduate, I participated in the Campus Ministry Mexico Mission and represented Assumption at two national conferences. I was also involved in the African, Latino, Asian, and Native American (ALANA) Network and its mission of creating a community that embraces and celebrates the diverse background of its students. I am proud to have been able to work with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and thankful for the opportunity it gave me to mature as a student leader and represent my class as salutatorian. I made the Dean’s List every semester and graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Business Management and a Computer Science minor.
After getting my BA, I completed an internship with Second Nature’s Advancing Green Building in Higher Education Initiative. Second Nature gave me the opportunity to learn more about sustainability issues, and to support the goals of the initiative by helping to connect minority-serving colleges and universities with the resources and knowledge to construct healthy, energy efficient buildings on their campuses, and promoted the greater cause of a sustainable future.
I am currently on leave from the Master in Public Administration program at the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs. I am taking classes in Boston and working with Second Nature again.
I intend for my academic and work experiences to prepare me to work towards my vision of a world where all people have their basic needs met and can pursue their ideals.
None of this would have been possible without God’s grace in my life, and the support I received from my family and my mentors at Assumption College and beyond.
